Beginning Quilting

Here's your chance to begin learning the quilt making process from one of the best in our area, Joyce Hatzell.  During this three session class, students will learn all the basics and best practices needed when constructing a masterpiece. Session One is a "no machine needed" class covering basics such as accurate cutting and measuring, cloth and thread quality and gauge, correct needle identification, color choice and use, as well as getting down to the cutting of the pattern for the quilt pictured, Mingle. Subsequent sessions will include the design and construction of your quilt including the perfect 1/4" seam allowance and the addition of a non-wavy border.  (It's a big deal!)  You need to bring a working sewing machine to sessions two & three and you will complete the entire top of the (approximately) 41" square, summertime, fun time quilt in the fabrics pictured.  Other items and notions will be needed but we suggest you wait until after the first session to decide what all you may need and/or want for your workroom.  Cost of this class includes instruction, the pattern, and the fabric kit for the top and the binding.  You will need to provide batting and backing if you choose to finish the project in its entirety as a bonified quilt.  We see tablecloths, picnic blankets, lots of things with this cute pattern so we have left the finishing up to you but will definitely be going over all of your possible options during the class.  It's tough to give you all required items needed when we will be discussing most of them during the first session, however, you at the very least are going to need to bring (or purchase here if needed) a great pair of safety gloves designed for use when cutting and using your rotary cutter.  You will be using it during the first session.
